As it has been my pledge to provide our state with the best possible leadership, it is now the task of the Delta Business Journal to provide readers with information vital to Mississippi businesses. Mississippi is prospering, and the Delta Business Journal has the opportunity to relay this good news to our citizens.

From the beginning of my administration, I have promised to take a straightforward business approach to government and have worked to place government back in the hands of Mississippians. Through hard work and determination, progress has been made in the Delta and throughout Mississippi. The Mississippi Miracle continues.

Since January 1992, Mississippi has witnessed significant declines in unemployment, the creation of more than 160,000 new jobs, increased per capita incomes, and continued economic growth. Mississippians have more confidence than ever before in our economy.

Congratulations on the beginning of the Delta Business Journal. I wish you tremendous success as you launch your publication.

Greetings to our friends in Mississippi from the floor of the New York Cotton Exchange. We enjoyed your first publication, especially the article on our associates, the Varner Brothers. Michael had been with us for 11 years, before he left from home, and it looks like he is doing well readapting to his Southern roots. The Varners have had a decades long reputation on the New York floor, as the old-timers speak fondly of Rogers, Sr. and of trading with no quote screens, news services, or instant weather. Now, those really were the dark ages! I am sure a lot of your readers are farmers, who are far removed from the job we do in marketing their crop. It is a fast, furious frenzy we live in, and we always strive to take care of our Mississippi friends, due to the close relationship with the Varners. Good luck with your newspaper, and please send it direct. We Yankees need to read about the real, genteel world where cotton actually grows, and people have manners.

Congratulations on launching the Delta Business Journal. I wish you great success with it.

The articles are well written and I especially agreed with and enjoyed reading Nancy Cotten Hirst’s editorial about the tobacco fiasco. She’s right on target. That, to me, is the correct point of view that you seldom hear in the mainstream media. Keep up the good work.
