Governor Ronnie Musgrove has been elected as chairman of the Southern Regional
Education Board. Musgrove will replace Governor Roy Barnes of Georgia.
“Education is the cornerstone for a successful foundation, in Mississippi
and across the South,” Musgrove says. “I am honored by this opportunity
to promote the tremendous advances we are making in our educational systems
and to encourage creative approaches in our schools.”
The Southern Regional Education Board is comprised of representatives from
16 member states. Founded in 1948, the SREB conducts research and helps shape
long-term policies regarding education.
“Governor Musgrove has demonstrated his commitment to education in Mississippi
and beyond, and we are excited about the leadership he will offer as chairman,”
says SREB President Mark Musick. “His efforts to promote education have
been recognized as forward-thinking, and the results of his work are well-known
within the education community.”
Musgrove was elected during 2002 Annual Meeting of the SREB June 25, 2002.
