Clarksdale resident elected at organization’s 64th annual meeting.

The campus of Delta State University played host to almost 2,000 at the Walter Sillers Coliseum on Friday, May 7 as visitors from around the state attended the 64th Annual Meeting of Delta Council. Elected officials, and wanna- be elected officials were also there. United States Representative Larry Combest of Texas, Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, was the keynote speaker delivering a powerful address as to what farmers are currently facing and what aspects of farming must be addressed in order for farmers to have a promising future.

They are just as often amazed to learn that business, economics and marketing training is available specifically for Mississippi farmers. The past two winters, the Agricultural Economics Department at Mississippi State University has through its Extension staff provided farm and farmer oriented training to a number of farmers all over Mississippi. Many farmers were unaware of these programs in spite of promotion through radio, television and the print media in addition to contact by their local county agricultural agents.
