A weekend with Fordice brings
back memories
One of the great things about being in the publishing
business is having the opportunity to meet interesting
and charismatic people. In the 13 years I have been involved
in the media, I've had my share of dealing with some very
interesting business and political figures.
Without a doubt, though, one of my favorite people I've
had the pleasure to get to know is former Mississippi
Governor, Kirk Fordice. Outspoken, to the point, but with
a great sense of humor and fun, Kirk Fordice is the type
of man you just don't meet very often. You know quickly
how you stand with the former governor--he calls it like
he sees it, and it was that bluntness that got him in
such hot water with the press when he was in office. But,
it's that type of honesty that I admire.

Our culture goes to the
Doggs
BY Jack Criss

This column started in my mind as a full blown analysis.
Rap and gangsta icon, Snoop Doggy Dogg, got his face
on the front page of that bastion of capitalism, The
Wall Street Journal. Curious, I read the accompanying
article and was literally disgusted.

Mayor Paul Artman, Jr. of Greenville
The embodiment of Delta pride and dedication
BY
JACK CRISS
DBJ Executive Editor
Paul Artman, Jr. truly defines what is meant by the term “public
servant.” As Mayor of Greenville, he lives and breathes
his community, basing his life’s work on the betterment
of the Queen City and the entire Delta.
Unarguably one of the great ambassadors for Greenville, Mayor
Artman appears wherever his city needs him. Be it a function in
town, or a convention out, Paul Artman is a tireless crusader
for the city he obviously loves dearly.
More than just a cheerleader however, Artman is dedicated to the
task of doing what he can to improve Greenville. His job is two-fold—promoting
the community he leads as well as internally nurturing and building
it—and he does both exceptionally well.
Such praise makes the Greenville native shrug in embarrassment.
To Artman, the accolades are just words, mere compliments that
may or may not indicate that his community is improving. The man
is not in the job for recognition; he’s in it for Greenville.
And it shows.
