Viking Range Corporation, the originator of commercial-type cooking
appliances for the home, has announced plans to enlarge its cooking products
manufacturing plant in Greenwood.
"The rapid growth of our product line makes it necessary for Viking to
constantly upgrade our facilities, processes and equipment," says Ron
Ussery, Viking vice president of manufacturing. "As Viking continues to
introduce cutting-edge appliances, it's important that we have the
manufacturing capabilities to maintain our position as the premium appliance
category leader."
The 80,000 square-foot expansion will add space in the fabrication,
porcelain-coating, and assembly areas of the plant. New laser fabrication
equipment will be installed, including two new punching cells. The porcelain
system will be upgraded, and a liquid porcelain system will be added. Also,
several new product assembly lines will be added to accommodate the
newly-introduced Viking Designer Series and other new product lines. The
expansion is expected to be completed by August, 2001.
The current Viking cooking products plant is a 150,000-square-foot facility
where the company manufactures products such as ranges, rangetops, and
ovens. In addition to this facility, Viking also operates a ventilation
products plant and a newly-opened refrigeration plant in Greenwood. The
company is also presently constructing a new distribution center west of
Greenwood.
