Questions & Answers
Donnie Brock, economic
developer/attorney
(Donnie Brock is chairman of the Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll
Economic Development Foundation and a attorney.)
DBJ:
What was your first job and who gave you your start in the
business world?
was employed in the mid-fifties as a soda jerk at the Tchula
Drug Store in Tchula, Mississippi. My first professional
job as an attorney was with W. M. Whittington, Jr. in Greenwood,
Mississippi.
DBJ:
If you could change or improve one thing about your business
or organization, what would that be?
Become more organized. Set goals to be achieved on a daily,
weekly, monthly and annual basis and achieve those goals
one at a time rather than moving about from one goal to
another and never really achieving any.
DBJ:
Are there any business books you would recommend to other
CEO’s? Or do you have a personal source of inspiration
in your work? Who or what?
A personal source of inspiration for me is to close a file
and be personally satisfied with the services rendered by
me in representing the client.
DBJ: What has been your proudest moment as CEO?
Convincing my son to join our law firm!
DBJ:
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job does not directly relate
to my profession but rather as a member of the local Industrial
Board and Economic Development Foundation. Being a part
of a team that is responsible for creating jobs for citizens
in our community and the surrounding area is a source of
pride and sense of achievement.
DBJ:
What is the most challenging?
The most challenging area of my profession is staying focused
on particular files and attempting to allocate my time and
not attempt to do more than I am capable of doing in a limited
time frame.
DBJ:
What do you think the next five years will bring for your
business or organization?
As a member of a law firm, I do not anticipate any drastic
changes over the next five years. The law is steeped in
tradition and resists change, or certainly, dramatic change.
Accordingly, I do not anticipate that there will be any
unusual changes in the foreseeable future and the practice
of my firm, except hopefully, an increase in volume of business
as reflected by an increase in volume of business to the
community. DBJ
