Finding out about the Delta, its activities and the people
who live here just got easier thanks to a new half-hour
magazine format television show that premiered in November.
DeltaVision, which focuses on events, people and businesses
that are changing the face and future of the Delta, is designed
to not only educate people about the Delta but also entertain
viewers with features about individuals and companies that
are making a difference in the region. “There are
wonderful things happening in the Delta,” says Freddye
Webb-Petett, one of the executive producers of the show,
who is also coordinator of the Mid South Delta Initiative.
“We expect that DeltaVision will entertain, inform
and help improve the image of the Delta both internally
and externally.”
The show, which premiered on Nov. 8, was created by Howard
Robertson, president of TRUST Marketing Inc., a public relations
firm based in Memphis, Tenn. Robertson, a former television
executive, also co-hosts the program with Tammi Arender,
a veteran news anchor who has worked in the Monroe, Louisiana,
and Nashville, Tenn., markets, as well as having been a
correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.
DeltaVision segments have included: “Doings in the
Delta,” “Hometown Heroes,” “Profiles
of Progress,” and “Taking Care of Business.”
According to WXVT Program Director Carolyn Byars, the program’s
last segment for the 2003 year aired on channel 15 on Dec.
13, due to the lack of availability of 30-minute weekend
time slots. She says, however, that it is likely that additional
segments of the show will be picked up in January.
The production and placement of DeltaVision is funded by
the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which supports projects and
programs through their Mid South Delta Initiative in 55
counties in Arkansas and Mississippi and parishes in Louisiana.
The show can be seen in weekend time slots on six television
stations, including WLMT (Memphis, TN); KARK (Little Rock,
AR); WXVT (Greenville); KASN (Little Rock/Pine Bluff, AR);
WAPT (Jackson); and KARD (Monroe, LA).
