WIRING THE DELTA TO THE WEB: Hayman’s Leland based company was one of the first internet service providers in Mississippi.

Businesses and households across the region have come to rely on this service provider’s dedication

In the mid-1990’s, as the technological revolution continued to blaze a trail through the nation, the Delta was not left behind, becoming part of a new, but now familiar, vast network known as the World Wide Web. Local internet service provider TecInfo has maintained the Delta’s connection with the rest of the world since January 1996 when this privately owned company was first launched, and has since provided continuous internet service to the area.

For almost a decade, TecInfo founders Greg Hayman and Stacy Trippe have worked to establish a trusted internet company—one that provides quality service 24-hours a day, a promise of non-interrupted service, and prevention of computer viruses and worms to nearly 6,000 customers. “We take pride in providing high-quality, non-stop service to our customers,” comments Hayman, “and we can guarantee that whether it’s service for an individual or a business, our customers can be assured of security and expertise in the latest technological advances.”

A former restaurateur, Hayman’s skill in computer technology spurred his interest in the idea of having a local dial-up service for the Delta region. He approached several leading national Internet companies in 1995 about the possibility of providing a Delta connection, but they were not interested, stating “there are not enough users in the area.” Hayman and partner Trippe then began proceedings to start their own internet company, and TecInfo was born.

TecInfo not only provides Broadband Internet service to individuals, but their list of business clients grows daily. Agricultural businesses, as well as hospitals and the banking industry, seek the services of TecInfo as an additional administrative component. “Network security and privacy are major issues that we face today in the internet world. A reputable company like TecInfo helps businesses and individuals confidently manage their businesses, while providing a highly secure service-one you can trust,” comments Hayman. A system of prevention against viruses and worms is also in place, thus saving the customer valuable time and money. TecInfo assures customers of 24-hour Network availability, on-site technical support, and a high level of what Hayman refers to as “Southern Service-ability.”

The business climate is ever-changing as new technology perpetually emerges. There is no status quo in the world of technology, demanding that internet providers keep up with the pace. Whereas the dial-up connection was originally implemented, now most customers are requesting broadband service, such as DSL. Hayman adds, “And just on the horizon is even more advanced technology. For example, new video and audio technology will soon make it possible for a large group of people to have a fully interactive conference call, where each individual participant is both seen and heard.” Connectivity is no longer a mere business enhancement, but has become an essential component of most companies, and quality connectivity creates greater efficiency in time, security, and cost concerns. TecInfo has expanded their Leland-based business and increased their services, recently adding a significant infrastructure to their Jackson office, which provides a larger electronic storage facility for Document Imaging and backups.

While individuals and businesses rely on TecInfo for their personal needs, this company also plays an important role in attracting new business and industry to the Delta. “State-of-the-art technology must be in place in an area before industry will consider locating here,” says Hayman. “We are here to provide quality, secure service to these businesses with a ‘southern-style’ hospitality.”

Not only is TecInfo drawing new business and industry to the Delta, but the company is also actively involved in community service on many levels. Two-time recipient of the Governor’s Cup Award for small business, TecInfo prides itself on giving back to its community. The honor, which recognizes private sector businesses that have had a significant impact on their local communities, is presented along with a cash award to a designated area of the community. The Internet Provider is actively involved in fundraising efforts for the American Heart Association, as well as a supporter of the arts in the area. Ashley Zepponi, Executive Director of The Leland Chamber/Main Street Association, comments, “TecInfo is a vital part of the Delta community in its efforts to support us both economically and technologically. Leland is very fortunate to be the home base of such an outstanding and community-minded company.”

Hayman’s hometown pride is evident when he reflects, “I moved to Leland from Louisiana about 17 years ago. This is the place that my family (his wife of 20 years and their three teenage children) considers home. It’s really a great place to live and raise a family, and allows me a place to hunt and fish in my spare time.”

Accessibility to the World Wide Web is just a click away for customers of TecInfo, as they keep the Delta on the cutting edge of future technology. Confidence in local business is an asset to any area, and TecInfo continues to provide that assurance to the Delta. DBJ
