Olive Branch choice of
FedEx Ground for new hub
A 93-acre site in DeSoto County has been chosen by FedEx Ground to be the fourth of nine new package distribution hubs
built over the next six years, the company has announced.
The 333,000 square-foot facility, to be located in the DeSoto Distribution Center, is part of a $1.8 billion plan to nearly
double average daily hub package volume capacity in North America for the operating unit of FedEx Corporation, chaired by
native Mississippian Frederick W. Smith.
“This announcement speaks volumes of the teamwork, leadership, and pro business environment Mississippi has achieved
under the leadership of our Governor, Legislature, Mississippi Development Authority, and local elected officials,” said Jim
Flanagan, president, DeSoto County Economic Development Council.
The Olive Branch site was chosen because of its complementary distance from the expanded Memphis operation, its proximity
to customers’ distribution centers and major highways, and a strong local labor pool. Three additional hubs are slated
for opening in 2005 in the metropolitan areas of Dallas, Cincinnati, and Hagerstown, MD. DBJ
