Executives are committed to the economic improvement of state

It was 1998, and things were not going well for Entergy Mississippi.
After the historic 1992 Energy Policy Act and 1996 Telecommunications Act, utility companies were allowed to branch out into other businesses, such as the purchase of foreign investments. Entergy Mississippi began taking what executives thought was advantage of these new opportunities, venturing into such concerns as home security and the buying and selling of worldwide power plants. The results were not good, recalls Haley Fisackerly, Vice President of Customer Operations.

Kansas congressman visits the Delta

Delta Council hosts Rep. David Moran

The Mississippi Delta came in for some up-close and personal attention recently as Congressman Jerry Moran, R-Kan., of the 69-county First District took in southern hospitality Delta-style.

Moran, chairman of the Sub-Committee on General Commodities and Risk Management on the House Committee on Agriculture, was the guest of the Delta Council as he toured various Delta agricultural sites.

Moran spent two days in the Mississippi Delta touring Delta farm operations.
Along with Moran, Mississippi’s Third District Republican Congressman Chip Pickering, shared tour duties since both men serve on the same agriculture committee.

“I thought it would be a great opportunity for Congressman Moran to see first hand what we do in the Mississippi Delta,” said Pickering. “This is his first time to the Delta and he came at my request.”

Valley State enrollment soars to record

A coordinated enrollment management plan, along with an effective marketing strategy, helped set a record enrollment this fall at Mississippi Valley State University.

Preliminary figures sent to the Institutions of Higher Learning board on September 9 by university officials, reported a student enrollment of 14.5 percent over fall semester 2002.
A record 507 new students have registered this fall bringing a university-wide student enrollment up to 4,008 students over 3,051 recorded for fall semester 2002.
