Nissan
North America in Canton recently presented Delta State University
with $30,000 on April 13 during a farewell reception for
Dr. David Potter and Pam Mathews at the H. L. Nowell Union
on the campus.

Nissan’s
donation is part of a $150,000 pledge the company has made
to Delta State. “We understand the greatest investment
we can make in our community is to invest in the education
of our young people,” said Dave Boyer, vice president
of manufacturing for Nissan Canton. “This gift signifies
our long term commitment to higher education in Mississippi.”
The Delta Education Initiative is joint venture between Delta
State, the Mississippi Congressional Delegation in Washington,
D.C., Delta Council, and a group of 34 Delta school districts.
The initiative provides services and professional development
for member school personnel and educational opportunities
for their students.
Dr. Potter led the University since 1999 and was recently
chosen as the state’s Commissioner for Higher Education.
Nissan’s Canton facility begins production on the next
generation Quest minivan in late May. The company’s
North American operations include automotive styling, engineering,
consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution
and manufacturing. DBJ
