Letters to the Editor:

Reader says DBJ is not balanced
Every time I receive the Delta Business Journal, there are more commentaries than I can count, on: A) slamming the Democrat party and never slamming the Republicans; and B) extreme right wing commentaries.

As a member of the media, one would think that you all would do your best to provide the state with a balanced publication. I have yet to read any balanced opinions in your paper. Your columnist, Nancy Hirst, is the most right wing biased writer I have ever seen. Why your readers don’t call for you to drop her from your paper is beyond my understanding.

Maybe this is just how it is today in that newspapers do whatever they want to without worrying about their readers. It seems to me that your paper, The Clarion-Ledger, and almost any newspaper I read today has lost their balance in news reporting. It is as if the owners of newspapers today run their papers the way they want and not the way that is best for their readers.

Obviously, advertising dollars drive all newspapers and if you would concentrate on providing a balanced publication, this would translate to more readers, which would then translate to more advertising dollars. Think about it.

You have a good paper. You could have a great paper if you would balance your commentaries.

Senate Democrats are not supporting tax relief efforts
Creating jobs and fostering economic growth needs to be our number one national priority. President Bush recognizes this and has delivered a jobs and growth plan that will create 1.4 million new jobs in the next two years. Some in Congress want to reduce or cut President Bush’s plan and in so doing, reduce the number of jobs created. That’s hundreds of thousands of jobs fewer than the 1 million jobs the stimulus package passed by the House of Representatives would create.

Twelve Senate Democrats understood the important impact tax relief has on growing our economy when President Bush’s tax relief was passed into law. Why are Senate Democrats ignoring their previous support for tax relief and its economic impact? They should vote with President Bush and give the economy the boost it needs. It’s the right thing to do to grow the economy.

Reader appreciates DBJ’s coverage of minorities
I have been reading your journal for the past year and want to commend you for your coverage of the Mississippi Delta’s minority business community. You have often featured articles on minorities and I not only appreciate your paper’s dedication to this group, I encourage you to feature even more articles on minorities.

The South’s minority business population is growing at a great pace. I encourage others in the business media to also dedicate coverage to this special group.

Again, good for the DBJ for leading the other Mississippi media into this direction. You all have an excellent paper!
