Publishing Group launches new lifestyle magazine for
the region, Delta Magazine |
Just
over five years ago, Coopwood Publishing Group identified
the need for a business publication that would cover business
news and highlight our business successes in the Mississippi
Delta. With that in mind, we created the Delta Business
Journal–the first and only business journal in the
history of the Mississippi Delta. We celebrated this milestone
in the last issue of the DBJ.
Almost two years ago, we identified another publishing need
for our region and that was the Mississippi Delta could
use a quality magazine dedicated to celebrating the lifestyle
of the Delta. A few months ago we moved forward with this
idea and in the coming days, many of you on the DBJ mailing
list will see the result which will be called, Delta Magazine
(www.deltamagazine.com). Once we made a commitment to this
new publishing venture, we also made a commitment to ourselves
and to our potential readers to publish a lifestyle magazine
of the highest caliber, a magazine whose design, writing,
and photography would compare favorably to similar magazines
published in Atlanta, Memphis, or New Orleans.
Delta Magazine, will initially be published six times a
year and will be mailed to some 15,000 households in the
Delta and part-Delta Counties. Copies will also be mailed
in Memphis, Oxford, and Jackson, and the magazine will be
offered at most bookstores in the Delta and the additional
circulation cities.
In every issue of Delta Magazine we’ll present the
very best of the Mississippi Delta. The centerpiece of the
publication will focus on homes, food, entertainment, the
arts, our history, architecture, and our people who make
up the fabric of the Delta. In the coming months we’ll
include other special focus sections, as well. All told,
Delta Magazine will be a tremendous asset to our region
in many ways and we’ll take great thought and pride
in how we present our way of life here in the Mississippi
Delta–not only to our own people, but to the rest
of Mississippi and the world.
Like you, I believe in the Mississippi Delta. As a fifth
generation Deltan, my roots run deep in this fertile soil.
I believe in our region. I believe in our people and in
our future. Some define the Delta in geographic terms, but
to me the Delta is a frame of mind. It is the magic and
mystery of this frame of mind that Delta Magazine will explore.
The editor of Delta Magazine will be Melissa Baker Townsend,
a native of Indianola and a current resident of Belzoni.
Melissa is a graduate of the University of Mississippi’s
School of Journalism. After Ole Miss, Melissa moved to Chicago
and worked for a weekly arts and entertainment publication
for five years followed by a stint in Internet media and
a position with one of the largest cable networks in the
U.S. Melissa moved back to Mississippi almost a year ago,
and our new publication is fortunate to have her on board.
Melissa’s experience and personal knowledge of the
Delta make her a perfect choice to lead the magazine.
