Delta
will miss Bill McNamee
We
at the Delta Business Journal are extremely saddened at
the death of longtime Delta Farm Press publisher, Bill McNamee
of Clarksdale. He was 78. A Tutwiler native, McNamee was
a true pioneer in Mississippi newspaper publishing, leading
the way for publications such as the DBJ and many others.
He was a risk-taker and a visionary and we in the Delta
are much better off today for the ideas he brought into
fruition. The DBJ extends ourheartfelt condolences and prayers
to the many friends and family members of Mr. McNamee. He
will be missed. DBJ
We
welcome new DSU President
As the DBJ we went to press this month, it was announced
that John Hilpert, a South Dakota college president, will
become the next leader of Delta State University. Expected
to assume his new role by early September, Dr. Hilpert will
become DSU’s seventh president, replacing Dr. David
Potter. From all indications, Dr. Hilpert appears to be
a progressive and strong choice for the challenging role
of DSU’s top official. Dr. Hilpert was quoted as saying
that he and his wife, Pat, can “make a difference
(at Delta State).” We at the DBJ welcome Dr. Hilpert
and his wife to our community and wish them luck in their
new roles. We look forward to bringing you a profile of
Dr. Hilpert in a major focus next month. DBJ
Prospere
strong choice to take over as State Treasurer
We at the DBJ applaud Governor Ronnie Musgrove’s naming
of Peyton D. Prospere as State Treasurer following the resignation
of Marshall Bennett. Prospere, an attorney, has extensive
experience in state securities law and municipal finance
law and will bring a wide range of knowledge to the position
of Treasurer. Prospere most recently served as Governor
Musgrove’s chief legal counsel and has also served
as Assistant Secretary of State, Director of Securities
Division. We wish Marshall Bennett well in his new endeavors
in New York City and welcome aboard Mr. Prospere. DBJ
