Musgrove
proclaims "The Year of the Blues"
Governor
Ronnie Musgrove proclaimed 2003 as “The Year of
the Blues” with the signing of a proclamation recently.
The US Congress has also passed legislation to officially
proclaim 2003 as “The Year of the Blues.”
“Mississippi has produced some of the finest musicians
in the world,” stated Musgrove. “From Greenville
to Clarksdale, from Indianola to Tutwiler, from our great
blues museums and blues venues, to communities across
our state, we have shown to the world our rich musical
talent, and they have opened their ears to listen.”
Mississippi is the birthplace of the blues but one can
travel across the globe and find the blues performed,
studied and emulated.
Throughout the year, several activities are planned in
the state to celebrate the Blues. For more information
